We sourced this coffee from Homage Coffee Source, excited to have a natural African coffee that wasn’t from Ethiopia. You will notice how terroir and heirloom varieties differ, giving this coffee a uniquely distinct quality that reminds us of warm Christmas cider on espresso. On filter brew, it tastes like Jolly Rancher made a candy bar, dried fruit and nougat.
The particular coffee comes from the Munkaze washing station co-owned and managed by Ephrem Sebatigita. Munkaze washing station processes coffees from Ephrem’s family farm and 815 of the surrounding farms and just recently placed 2nd in the Cup of Excellence competition in Burundi with one of his washed coffees. He’s heavily involved in coffee education in not only Burundi, but in the whole of Africa as well.
