Leaning in to woft the aromas after brewing (before having a chance the think up all the esoteric flavor notes we coffee nerds pride ourselves on experiencing) the word “HONEYSUCKLE!” echoed in the room, followed by that slow, approving head nod hipsters do when they reach a deep-vibing agreement. The nose is floral and sweet. Delicately roasted, peach and plum acidities twinkle on the tongue. When you taste it, you’ll know exactly what we mean. In the body there is a caramel and brown sugar sweetness with a quick finish. Though color-coded as “delicate”, there’s much to offer the traditional drinker. For when you want a quintessentially clean coffee.
Octavio Rafael Herrera Ordoñez, known as ‘Otto’, worked in coffee for 25 years before retiring. Paying tribute to his hard work, his children and grandchildren who operate La Esperanza Estate, still recognize him as the chief producer. The Herrera Family has over 50 years of experience in growing coffee. They continue a tradition of pushing the limits and quality of coffee processing, which has led to cup in your hands.
We sourced this coffee from Onyx Coffee Importers who specialize solely in Guatemalan coffee. After tasting many samples, we selected this lot “spot” from their warehouse to fill a gap in our sourcing caused by increased demand. (Thank you for your support!) We were impressed by the delicate fruit-forward acidity and the clean finish. It was the perfect coffee to bring some balance to our usual bombastic portfolio of coffee offerings.
